Dramatico
Entertainment Limited was founded by singer/songwriter/producer/arranger
Mike Batt in the early naughties, and achieved its first
resounding success in 2003 with the phenomenal Georgian
singer-songwriter Katie Melua – discovered by Batt
at the BRIT School in Croydon. Katie has sold nearly 11
million records on Dramatico, and has just released her
fourth album, “The House” – produced
by William Orbit rather than Mike Batt – who produced
and co-wrote the first three.
Dramatico’s set-up is unique among record labels,
in that it controls marketing and sales throughout much
of the world by means of direct control from London, rather
than licensing to other labels in other territories. This
has given us a strong ability to penetrate Continental
Europe in particular. We employ a strong team of freelance
promotion and marketing people locally, but only actually
have our own offices in the UK, Munich and New York..
We have enjoyed growing our artist roster (see separate
ARTIST sections) and have expanded our operational capacity
by making deals with artists not necessarily produced
or written for by Mike – which had been the initial
reason for setting up the label. Now, we make deals with
artists from all over the world, as typified by our deal
with Australian Gurrumul (for Europe and the States) Sarah
Blasko – also from Australia, France’s Carla
Bruni, Holland’s Caro Emerald and others.
Our tastes in music are defined by the artists with whom
we choose to work – and who choose to work with
us. We like to think we can offer a sharply focused yet
human approach to marketing, and still put the necessary
muscle and energy behind any artist or project that a
major record label would be expected, or – sometimes
not expected (!) to bring.
We are independently distributed in most territories,
and through Universal in the States, where our Broadway
office is only a block away from our sales/distributor,
Universal.
Our next stage of planned development will see the Dramatic
side of Dramatico growing, alongside the music label and
management side. We are deeply into pre-production on
a high-level CGI feature film “Ergo, The Chronicles
Of Don’t Be So Ridiculous Valley” and are
developing two stage shows and a TV series.
Meanwhile we continue to enjoy making records and working
with a wide variety of artists.
Thanks for visiting the site; we hope you find something
to enjoy here..
